There is a big chance you have never heard of D.E.I.B. before. If that’s the case then please continue reading this blog post so you can learn something new that can bring your company or you as a person to a new level.

Society

D.E.I.B.’s full name stands for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. This term is becoming more commonly used in today’s society as people are striving for equality. The first step to having D.E.I.B. at your workplace or anywhere is acknowledging that there is the problem of bias whether it be race, gender, etc. After that, you can start taking the steps to make sure everyone feels comfortable and welcomed in your environment whether it be changing the way you or your company do things or hiring a more diverse group of people.

Bias

A lot of people might think that they don’t need to worry about D.E.I.B. because they aren’t racist or sexist but that’s not entirely true. Just because you don’t mean to be biased doesn’t mean you aren’t. There is a thing called implicit bias which is when someone has a preference for something or someone without realizing it. For example, if you are more likely to hire a man over a woman for the same job then that’s implicit bias.

Importance

Something that a lot of people don’t realize is that D.E.I.B. isn’t just about race or gender, it can be about anything. If you have an all able-bodied team and someone with a disability applies then they might not feel comfortable applying because they don’t see anyone like them represented. That’s why it’s important to have D.EI.B in every aspect of your life so everyone feels included and can bring their whole selves to whatever situation they are in.

In conclusion, D.E.I.B is important and should be taken seriously by everyone. We all have a part to play in making the world a more equal place for everyone.
